Once I had decided on the configuration of the support planes, this half-scale model was used to begin to work out how the different surfaces could be connected. I modeled the independent support surfaces first out of chipboard, adding the white tape afterward.

Additional ideas for connecting the support planes are pictured in the sketches below.
